Carolina Performing Arts presents the Overtone Quartet, February 10, 2012 at the UNC Memorial Hall in Chapel Hill, NC. The performance will begin at 8 p.m. Grammy-winning bassist Dave Holland will join the Overtone Quartet – known as the next generation of masters – featuring Jason Moran, experimental pianist and composer, Chris Potter and Eric Harland for an exciting evening. Chris Potter is a Grammy-nominated saxophonist. Along with Eric Harland’s orchestral drumming, the Overtone Quartet is a “new force on the scene” according to All About Jazz.
Miles Davis is recognized as one of the jazz world’s most advanced composers and arrangers. From his beginnings with Miles Davis, Holland has played with many of the greatest names in jazz and has taught master classes around the world. Jason Moran is a triple-crown winner in the 59th Annual Critics Poll as well as Jazz Artist, Jazz Album and Pianist of the Year winner. Eric Harland attended Manhattan School of Music and has recorded more than 80 recordings with various artists. Chris Potter is a jazz saxophonist, composer and Grammy-award nominee.
Arrive early for a lecture and demonstration on jazz improvisation. Given by members of the UNC jazz faculty, Dave Finucane, tenor saxophone; Jim Ketch, trumpet; Jason Foureman, bass; Stephen Anderson, piano; and Dan Davis, drums, the lecture and demonstration will begin at 7 p.m. at Gerrard Hall.
